The Filipino American League of Pierce County recently hosted a vibrant New Year and Christmas celebration at La Quinta in Tacoma. This festive event brought together multiple Filipino communities for an evening filled with dinner, dancing, live music (KABAGIZ), and meaningful connections. It was more than just a party; it was a gathering that strengthened bonds, honored traditions, and welcomed the promise of a new year with hope and joy.

A Night to Remember: Setting the Scene
The La Quinta venue was transformed into a warm and inviting space that reflected the spirit of the Filipino community. Tables were adorned with New Years decorations, and the air buzzed with excitement as families and friends arrived. The event was carefully planned to offer a balance of cultural pride and festive cheer.
Guests were greeted with a welcome drink and a program that promised a night full of entertainment and camaraderie. The atmosphere was lively, yet intimate, allowing everyone to feel part of a larger family. This setting was perfect for reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.
Bringing Communities Together
One of the most remarkable aspects of the gala was the participation of various Filipino communities from across Pierce County. This diversity enriched the event, showcasing different regional traditions and stories. It was a reminder of the strength found in unity and the beauty of cultural exchange.
Community leaders took the stage to share messages of hope and gratitude. Their words highlighted the importance of preserving Filipino heritage while embracing the opportunities of life in America. These speeches set a tone of reflection and optimism that carried through the evening.
Dancing and Live Music: The Heartbeat of the Evening
Event Highlights
Marj Tamayo made a surprise dance of Michael Jackson. Vice President Julia Merafuentes followed up the Hope for the New Year and encouraged everyone to apply for new membership that night, reminding attendees to drive safely back home.
Musical Atmosphere
After dinner, the energy shifted to the dance floor where live music set the rhythm for the night. A local band played a mix of traditional Filipino songs and popular tunes that got everyone moving. The music was a bridge between generations, inviting both young and old to join in the celebration.
Dancing and Cultural Pride
Dancing was more than entertainment; it was an expression of joy and cultural pride. FMDT was centerstage this night. Many attendees wore Disney-themed attire, adding color and authenticity to the experience. The lively beats and spirited dances created memories that will last well beyond the event.

Building Connections That Last
Beyond the festivities, the gala was an opportunity for community members to connect on a deeper level. New friendships were formed, and existing relationships were strengthened. The event encouraged conversations about shared experiences, challenges, and aspirations.
Several attendees mentioned how important it was to have a space where Filipino Americans could come together and support one another. The Filipino American League’s role in fostering this sense of community was clear and appreciated.
